Neverwhere fanart _ Carabas by Jo-yumegari Neverwhere fanart _ Carabas by Jo-yumegari
"What Richard had taken for a pile of rags unfolded, expanded, stood up in one fluid motion, and a hand caught the crumpled paper in mid-air.
"Mine, I believe" said the Marquis de Carabas." Neverwhere, Neil Gaiman

Illustration for the first apparition of the Marquis de Carabas. I love this book and I've been wanting to draw this scene for ages. I tried years ago but it was really disappointing compared to what I could see in my head, so I though I'd try again now. I redid it two times and I'm still not happy with it ! So I guess this scene is doomed to look way cooler in imagination ;p

The character and extract belong to Neil Gaiman.

Yeah, this is pretty much exactly how the Marquis de Carabas should look. Top marks.

A nice touch is the detail in the background, including the author's name. ;)

I like that he looks a little dangerous and a lot mysterious. As others have said, the light is amazing.

That's fantastic. It was a cool scene and you did a good job with the dramatic catch and the predatory grin.

I've always imagined de Carabas as a scarecrow-like man, thanks for making fantasy a (half) reality! I just thing his face should be less... sinister and more... cool, I don't mean skater ''cool'', more like the expession, with a mild smile, but it's still wonderfull

You really did him justice. Except I imagined him having more layers of clothes, what with Richard mistaking him for a pile of rags.

Aaaahh! The Marquis! Long time without know anything about this character! (It was very funny in the novel) Did you see the adaptation on comic by Glenn Fabry?

Erm... Are you going to draw Mr.Croup and Mr.Valdemar eating pigeons? ^^U

Good pic!
